The tour of Australia gave me plenty of time to visit with parents from a different culture, with the same problems and some interesting solutions for raising children. I’ll be sharing these things with you as I process them and get over the jet lag. I did have an opportunity to do some reading and among the many things I read, I thought I’d share something I read from the poet Kahlil Gibran.

On Children

Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts,

You are the bows from which your children

The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite,

For even as He loves the arrow that flies,
so He loves also the bow that is stable.

As parents you are the creators of the future, take your responsibility to heart and guide your little arrows on the road to peace and joy and happiness. As I’ve said before, and mean it more every time I say it, I’ll love you forever. IM4U
