Guitar Uncle Jim Asks Parents: Are You A Poop Peeper?

Whenever I am around a bunch of moms, especially after a show and we get to talk about parenting, it’s an amazing experience to see them come to life. When topics on parenting come up, I’m always interested to see where the conversations will go. In a recent visit with some moms the topic went to a subject that I will call “macro-mommying, and as a follow-up to that discussion I’ll ask you, are you a “poop peeper”.

I guess I ought to start off by defining “poop peeper”. Many parents, after they get their children potty trained, teach their kids to flush the toilet. That makes sense in the long run but for “poop peepers” they think there is plenty of time later to add the flush to their kid’s repertoire. “Poop peeping” gives the parents an opportunity to see, first hand, the state of their children’s health.

For all human beings daily bowel movements are the key to good health. If your child’s bowel movements:

* Happen immediately after eating (less than 60 minutes) and they are very loose, there are issues to discuss with your MD.

* Happen 2 or more days apart, they are not pooping enough and there are issues.

* If the poop contains food particles that are not fully digested there are issues.

* If your child alternates between constipation and diarrhea there are issues.

Bowels that are not moved daily, can easily become toxic to the health of the child’s gut and can become painful and need medical intervention. A good diet includes eating a balance of water, exercise, fiber, and a variety of foods including fruits and vegetables. Try for a balance and avoid, at all costs, sugar, fast foods or too many foods from only one of these categories.

So, are you a “poop peeper”? I’d love to hear from parents as to their experience in the world of poop. Remember, IM4U.
