Dedicated to the memory of my grandfather, Captain James Delaney Buffett, the better half of the captain and the kid whose picture appears in this album.

There are still blue skies on the cover and a few more “character” lines around the eyes. Crustacean fascinations are now Havana Daydreams, and the white suit and the parakeet are still waiting for the future date when we really sail away to Martinique.

There are now real Coral Reefers that have replaced the fictitious characters I used to employ. (Farewell Marvin Gardens and Company.) The band had its embryonic origin in a claustrophobic dressing room in Raleigh, North Carolina. Surrounded on three sides by appreciative but fanatic fans who wouldn’t let us out. I turned to Roger (the mono-Reefer then), and calmly screamed “I can’t do this shit much longer. If I don’t get a band, I’ll go crazy”.

The band has come and is a welcome addition to “Coral Reefer Madness.” In all, I am happy with what I am doing, where I am living, and who I am loving. Tonight I’m Havana Daydreamin’, tomorrow who knows?

Havaña Daydreamin' is the seventh album by American popular music singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett and his fourth regular major label album. It was produced by Don Gant and was initially released in January 1976 as ABC Dunhill ABCD-914 and later rereleased on ABC Dunhill's successor label MCA

Most of the songs on the album were written or co-written by Buffett, two with his future wife, Jane Slagsvol. Other songs include "Big Rig" written by Coral Reefer Greg "Fingers" Taylor and "This Hotel Room" by Steve Goodman (who also co-wrote "Woman Goin' Crazy on Caroline Street" with Buffett). The album also contains a remake of Jesse Winchester's "Defying Gravity," the first of several Winchester songs Buffett would record over his career. (The song would also be remade by Emmylou Harris.) None of the songs on the album have been played regularly at Buffett's live concerts since the 1970s.

A different version of "The Captain and the Kid" was originally released in 1970 on Down to Earth and yet another on 2002's Meet Me in Margaritaville: The Ultimate Collection making it (with "In the Shelter") one of only two Buffett songs with three different studio versions.
For pacing purposes, the second verse of "Woman Going Crazy on Caroline Street" was cut on the single release.
