Barefoot and happy, Jimmy Buffett helped thousands of Parrotheads say so long to summer last night with the second of his two Labor Day weekend shows in Bristow, Va.

"It is the end of the season. Summer's over!" Jimmy told me backstage, where we chatted for a few minutes before the concert.

Of course, it's never really over for the island-loving troubadour, who'll play the West Coast in October for the final leg of his Under The Big Top Tour. But before that, he'll play Paris on Sept. 24.

Buffett mentioned that a highlight of the summer was his July Gulf Coast concert for 35,000 fans. "They needed a break" from the oil spill disaster, he said. He mentioned he's still involved with projects tied to recovery efforts and environmental education in the area. And he noted his new Margaritaville Beach Hotel in Pensacola is doing well. "Sold out for this weekend!"
